FERNANDO PEZZINO

The Crosswords series encompasses two narratives: the linguistic narrative (words evoking a particular image or group of images associated with them), and the narrative of color and form. The link between the two lead to the internal dialogue of the painting, in which these narratives sometimes meet, oppose, intersect or converge into one unit. Through changes in the surface texture of my painting, I signify when these narratives do not connect or complement each other. Tearing, weathering and the use of unexpected blank space are techniques I deploy to symbolize disconnectedness, disruption, or dissonance.
